Alan Jacobs is an author and independent researcher on comparative genocide and the abuse of power. He was formerly a psychotherapist, and has published several articles on the structure of dictatorship, aspects of genocide and related issues, four of which won the 1996 Eric Berne Memorial Award for original theory. He has conducted workshops, and given papers in several countries and some of his articles have been translated into several languages.

Jacobs, the editor of IDEA, is also the editor of the psychotherapy Internet journal TAJnet (http://www.tajnet.org), an assistant editor at the H-Net mailing list H-HOLOCAUST, and a contributing editor at Cybrary of the Holocaust (http://www.remembr.org). He is also the editor of the H-Net academic mailing list H-Genocide (http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/~genocide/)
